Neon tubing is still readily available,
competitively priced and very widely used. It will likely have a place in the sign market for many more
years to come. However, as technology continues to deliver drastic improvement in other areas, neon dominance
as the preferred source of illumination in modern sign systems is being challenged.
LED light sources are improving at a remarkable rate. Latest generation LEDs run brighter, cooler and much
longer than their earlier counter parts. They represent significant savings in terms of monthly power
consumption and are often sited for lower insurance premiums due to substantially reduced voltage requirements.
They are cool to the touch and can run on 12v power supplies rather than the 110/120v requirements of their
neon counterparts. LEDs are also the light source of choice where thinner strokes and more aggressive bends
do not allow for the use of neon tubing.
At the present time, the decision to go with neon vs. LED is largely application driven. Technology has made
LED a preferred option in many applications but still falls short of delivering the desired brightness and
consistent color in others. That's why it is important to work with a company that is well versed in both
the neon and LED product line when selecting the best light source. Sign Solutions has made a commitment
to keeping abreast of the latest technology. This allows us to help you make informed decisions when
weighing the two products.
