Phenolic (photo-polymer) materials were amongst the first to be used in the manufacture of ADA
compliant sign systems. It is perhaps the simplest and least costly way of providing the raised
characters and Class II Braille requirements spelled out for ADA signs. The material is easy to
work with and is available in both an interior and exterior grade. Phenolic signs easily accept
paint products, silk screening and other production techniques. The base material is also available
in a transparent form if desired.
Phenolic ADA signs are quite popular with architects and building owners looking for a simple and
inexpensive means for achieving ADA compliance. They can be designed to include changeable insert slots
for names, titles and other copy that might be subject to change during the life of the sign. These insert
slots make it possible to alter the contents of a sign face while not requiring the purchase of an entirely
new sign.
Phenolic materials are a very good choice for those looking for a "middle of the road"
level sign package. It is a far better choice than "mail order" injection molded plastic. However, those desiring
a more elaborate and higher end signage might prefer opting for some of our more design friendly product lines
such as Vista.
